Food & Beverage

WooCommerce for Food and Beverage Brands

AssemblyWP builds and maintains WooCommerce stores for food, beverage, and perishable goods brands. We work on the logic these stores live or die on: ship-day rules, zone-based shipping cost, cold chain packaging tiers, local delivery windows, and allergen and lot data that has to stay accurate. Senior engineers and AI agents on one team, month to month.

The Problem

Your Product Has a Clock On It

Almost every ecommerce problem gets easier if you can ship a day late. Yours doesn't.

A perishable order placed Thursday afternoon can't sit in a facility over the weekend. That single constraint pushes logic into your store that most WooCommerce sites never need: cutoff times by day, blackout dates, transit-time estimates by zone, and a checkout that refuses to promise something fulfillment can't deliver.

Shipping cost is the other clock. Cold packs and insulated liners and overnight service cost real money against an order value that's usually modest. The free shipping threshold that works for a jewelry brand will bankrupt you, and the one that protects your margin might kill your conversion rate. That number is a business decision wearing a settings field.

Get both right and the store runs. Get either wrong and you're eating the cost of spoiled product plus a refund plus a customer who won't order again.

What Breaks

What Breaks on Food and Beverage Stores

01

Ship-day logic drifts out of sync with fulfillment.

The cutoff was 2pm when you set it up, then the warehouse changed its pickup, and nobody updated the store. Now orders are getting promised on a schedule that can't happen.

02

Zone pricing gets stale.

Carrier rates change. If your shipping tiers were hardcoded at some point, they're now either losing you money on distant zones or pricing you out of them.

03

Allergen and ingredient data lives in the product description.

Which means it's plain text nobody validates, edited by whoever last touched the page. On a food product that's a real liability, and it's also the data customers filter and search on.

04

Lot and expiry tracking doesn't exist in stock WooCommerce.

Most food stores end up with something custom bolted on, built once, understood by one person.

05

Local delivery and shipping fight each other at checkout.

A customer inside your delivery zone should see different options than one across the country. Most setups either don't distinguish, or distinguish in a way that breaks when somebody's postcode sits on a boundary.

06

Alcohol adds a legal layer.

DTC shipping rules vary state to state, some states prohibit it entirely, and age verification has to happen without wrecking checkout.

How We Work

How We Work on Food and Beverage Stores

Development

Handles the build: shipping rule engines, ship-day and cutoff logic, cold-chain packaging tiers, local delivery zones, subscription and recurring delivery configuration, and structured product data for allergens, ingredients, and lots. You get a named engineer who stays on the store, which matters when your shipping logic is the most complex thing on the site and none of it is documented.

Store Care

Keeps it running. Updates risk-classified and staged, continuous security scanning, verified backups, uptime and performance monitoring around the clock.

Agents run the routine work and engineers make the calls that carry risk. Anything near checkout, payments, or shipping calculation goes to a person first. On your store a shipping bug isn't a cosmetic problem, it's product in a box going the wrong direction at your expense.

We check the shipping configuration against what fulfillment actually does, because that gap is where the money leaks and neither side usually knows it's open.

Because shipping cost is such a large share of the order here, cart thresholds and shipping incentives need more care than in most categories. The threshold has to move people to a bigger basket without handing away margin on the orders you were getting anyway.

If you run recurring delivery, renewal handling and failed payment recovery is where a surprising amount of revenue sits, and it's usually running on plugin defaults.

What Changes

Your store stops promising things your warehouse can't do.

Shipping cost matches what the carrier actually charges. Allergen data is structured, searchable, and accurate. Local customers see local options. When you change a cutoff or add a zone, it's a config change rather than a project.

The honest version: we can't make cold shipping cheap. That cost is physics and carrier pricing, and it sets the shape of your business. What we can do is make sure you're not paying it twice because a rule was wrong.

Getting Started

We tell you what to fix, and in what order.

01

Store audit

Start with a store audit. We go through the shipping rule set against your real fulfillment schedule, the zone pricing against current carrier rates, the product data structure, the local delivery configuration, and the update backlog.

02

Lead with the deadline

If you're heading into a seasonal peak, say so and we'll work backward from it.

03

Access and safety net

We'll need access to the store and the hosting. Before we ship code we need working backups and a staging environment.

Two ways to work with us. Store Care keeps the site running. Development builds what's in the queue. Either one stands on its own, and most brands add the second one later.

Book 30 minutes. We'll look at your store and tell you what we'd fix first, what it costs, and what we'd leave alone. If there's nothing worth fixing, we'll tell you that too.

We only do WooCommerce. If you're on Shopify, we're the wrong shop.
